Are the chess pieces edible?
Yes, every piece is modelled in fondant and edible. They are firm enough to stand and to be kept afterwards, which most families do with the king. If a piece is lifted above the cake on a wire or a stand, that support is not edible and we remove it before cutting.
Can you set up a specific position on the board?
We can. Send the position — a photograph of the board, a diagram, or the notation — and we lay the pieces to match. Families most often ask for the final move of a game the birthday person actually won, which is worth doing if you have it.
How big does the cake need to be for a proper 64-square board?
2 Kg upward. On a 1 Kg cake the squares come out small enough that the board reads as a pattern rather than a chessboard, so on that size we prefer to make the board the top surface only and stand two or three larger pieces on it.
Can it say the club or tournament name?
Yes, piped on the board or on a fondant plaque at the base. We make these for chess clubs and academies as well as birthdays, and for those we usually put the crest on the top surface and keep the pieces to one side so the lettering is not crowded.

A chess cake lives or dies on the board, so we get that right first: sixty-four squares cut and laid by hand in dark and ivory fondant, sharp at the edges rather than piped. The pieces are modelled individually and dusted so they read as carved wood or marble rather than sugar, and they are arranged as a real position — mid-game, or the moment of checkmate with the king on its side. A levitating king suspended above the board is the version people photograph most; it sits on a hidden support and comes off before cutting.
It suits a milestone birthday as easily as a child's, which is why we make it for eight year olds and for sixtieths. Sizes start at 1 Kg, priced from ₹2,500/Kg, and a 2 Kg cake gives a board big enough for the squares to look right. Every cake is 100% eggless and available in all 19 flavours. Most designs need about a day's notice — a little more for a full set of modelled pieces. We deliver within 25 km of our Sector 47 studio in a temperature-controlled cab, with the delivery charge calculated by distance.
